Their programme of activities seeks to encourage aspiration that anything is possible, with additional inspiration and guidance to those people who may be uncertain about what avenue to follow. Through 4Talent’s programmes, they provide end to end development of skills for those who are interested in exploring the possibilities that the creative sector has to offer.
There are a number of programmes the first being their work experience programme. This year Channel 4 are offering up to 80 work experience placements to help fresh talent find out more about working in the media. The majority of the placements are within Channel 4, although a number are also offered within some of their independent production partners to increase the opportunities. These placements offer a variety of learning experiences across a wide range of areas and the experience and skills that students build with Channel 4 will make a positive impact on their future careers.
Channel 4 also run a number of master classes and workshops called ‘Inspiration Days’ across the UK, held in conjunction with their media partners. These free tasters focus on key media genres such as New Media, Acting and Presenting, Radio and Journalism and the sessions showcase the skills, experiences and attitudes you need to progress – as well as innovative ways to focus and strengthen your own career prospects.
On top of this, Channel 4 offer a number of paid internships throughout the year within core areas of their business. It’s a real chance for people to explore where a career in the media industry could take them, with 3-12 month opportunities up for grabs to those who have the talent, passion and sheer ambition to get their foot in the door. Interns get to spend up to twelve months working in one particular business area of Channel 4, getting involved in all aspects of that department's work, finding out what makes it tick and the part it plays in Channel 4 as a whole. There are specific projects and assignments to get stuck into as well while Channel 4 supports you to quickly build your skills and knowledge - and you’re paid!
Channel 4’s Production Trainee Scheme offers opportunities with production companies nationwide. They’re on the lookout for new voices. Talented people who are keen to spend up to 12 months with either a television or new media production company, building the skills they need to launch their careers. Through this initiative, trainees are offered on-the-job learning when they are assigned a production company, as well as structured industry coaching sessions at Channel 4 and other top locations every month. On top of all that, there's a generous training allowance of £17,000.
